LVC Day of Service at Coleman Park
Saturday, September 25
9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Alumni are invited to join students, faculty, and staff for a day of service at Coleman Park, 1400 West Maple Street, Lebanon. The park, which is the site of the ruins of an historic iron ore refinery, seeks the help of the broader LVC community to continue restoration of the site. Other improvements to the grounds slated for the day include clearing the remains of a Victorian-era garden, work on the construction of a bat house, various painting projects, hiking trail maintenance, general park clean-up, trash pick-up, and other general maintenance projects. Furnaces of the Coleman iron refinery process were constructed at the southern end of the present-day park in the 1840s and continued in operation through the 1920s. Although significant progress was made on the restoration of the site earlier this year, there is still much work that remains. There will also be work done to weed and clear an area around the remains of the gardens of the John Penn Brock mansion on the western end of the park. In 1936, the Coleman and Brock families deeded five mansions and much of the 100 acres that constitute the park to the city. Due to high maintenance expenses, all of the mansions were demolished by 1961.
Bring a water bottle, hat, clothing that covers arms and legs, and a bag lunch. Work gloves will be provided.

An Afternoon at the Gallery

Sunday, September 26
4-6 p.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Ansel Adams: Early Works, LVC alumni are invited to spend an afternoon at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery. Our special guest will be Barbara McNulty, adjunct professor of art history at LVC. The exhibition includes fifty prints predominately from the first half of Adams' career. They show the Sierra Mountains, Yosemite, and other natural sites that Adams photographed time and again, and that are now preserved national landmarks. Ansel Adams: Early Works is on generous loan from art2art Circulating Exhibitions. For more information about the exhibition or the gallery, visit http://www.lvc.edu/gallery/
