Message from President Thayne:
Middle States Accreditation Status, April 12, 2013
Dear Members of the Campus Community:
I am delighted to report that the Middle States Small Team Visit resulted in a recommendation that Lebanon Valley College be certified as “in compliance.” This is the best possible outcome we could have hoped for and it means, in effect, that the Small Team recommends that our Warning Status should be lifted by the Middle States Commission. We will not receive official notification of our status change until late June; however, in general the Team recommendation is upheld.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and congratulations to all members of the community. I know how hard everyone has worked toward this result and I am reminded how powerful a community of shared purpose and maximum determination can be. Our colleagues in Academic and Students Affairs in particular deserve our thanks for preparing us in the areas of student learning. The Middle States Response Task Force deserves special commendation for their inexhaustible energies, drive, and creativity in solving problems.
Our efforts have strengthened a culture of assessment at LVC that was characterized this morning by Valerie Lehr, the Small Team leader, as broad in its extent across divisions and deep in the voices that participate. And she added a personal hope from the Team that we would begin to tell the story to the wider world of how we were able to do this so well, so quickly.
Again, my thanks and congratulations to all. Excellent work.
