We offer private lessons in violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, cornet, French horn, trombone, tuba, piano, percussion, guitar, and voice. Our students range from beginers in elementary school to advanced adults. Although some of our students are college-bound and are preparing for careers in music, most are studying for personal enjoyment and the desire to enrich their lives with music. All ages and abilities are welcome, from the very young violinist to the retiree who always wanted to play an instrument or sing. The student and the student's goals are always kept in mind as the reach for excellence continues.

Part of the private lesson program is the opportunity to perform in the two annual recitals. Our students are encouraged to perform, yet are never forced. We also have two performance groups, a string ensemble, and a brass ensemble. All students of intermediate level and above are invited to join.

Registration and Tuition
Community Music Institute classes and lessons are offered on a non-credit basis. Classes are held at the College's Blair Music Center. Arrangements for lessons must be made with the director, and registration can be completed when lessons commence.

Tuition for private instruction is $21 per half-hour lesson. The fee for 14 half-hour lessons would then be $294.00 Arrangements can be made for lessons of longer duration and their costs will be calculated at $31.50 per 45 minute lesson and $42.00 per hour lesson.

The number of lessons per semester are absolutely defined as follows:

  • Fall: 14 lessons
  • Spring: 14 lessons
  • Summer: 7 lessons

Family Tuition Plan
If two or more students from one family are enrolled for the entire semester, there is a 10 percent discount for the second and each additional family member. The students must be enrolled during the same semester to qualify for this plan. This also applies to students in different programs, such as one sibling in Kindermusik and one in private lessons, or a parent in private lessons and a child in Kindermusik. Payment plans are available upon discussion with the director.
