Functional Description: The Manager of Technical Services is responsible for the management and protection of the campus network, servers, communication systems, and manages the Technical Services group within IT Services. The Manager of Technical Services is a member of the IT Services management team that also includes the Director of Client Services, the Director of Information Management Services and the Director of Information Technology Services.
Essential Functions
- Coordinating the management of the campus servers and data network including user administration, maintenance, wiring, installation, tuning, backup, security, documentation and reporting.
- Overseeing the administration of the college's communications systems (long distance, voicemail, cable plant, pbx, radios, cell and stationary phones) including user management, maintenance, backup, security, documentation and reporting.
- Maintaining, testing and revising a disaster recovery plan for IT, and assuring its integration with a campus disaster recovery plan.
- Assuring the operation of the campus cable television system in cooperation with Media Services and the cable service provider.
- Overseeing data and communication rooms and their support systems (e.g., air conditioning, UPS).
- Supervising and coordinating the work of the members of the Technical Services group.
- Overseeing the administration of the college’s OneCard systems (door access, security, vending, merchant, and meals operations).
- Provide support to the Information Management Services and Client Services groups within ITS.
- Remaining current in the field of technology and computing by regularly reading trade journals and attending workshops, seminars and other training sessions as required.
- Participating with others on the IT Services management team in long-range and strategic planning for IT Services.
