Functional Description:The Director of Information Technology has overall responsibility for the college's computer, data, voice and video systems, operations and services. The Director of Information Technology heads the Information Technology management team that also includes the Director of Enterprise Information Systems, Director of Technology and User Support and the Manager of Infrastructure and Security.

Essential Functions
  • Advises the vice president for administration and information technology on matters related to information technology.
  • Guides the development of a strategic plan for information technology.
  • Establishes annual departmental goals and regularly assesses progress toward those goals.
  • Measures the effectiveness of departmental programs and initiatives on a regular basis.
  • Manages and provides appropriate training and professional development opportunities for the Information Technology staff.
  • Administers information technology budgets and oversees the purchase of information technology products/services.
  • Establishes standards for computers, data, and voice equipment and related items and services.
  • Formulates and administers information technology policies and procedures including disaster recovery plans.
  • Identifies, evaluates and recommends emerging technologies appropriate for use at the college.
  • Provides leadership in the promotion and communication of information technology support, services and projects.
  • Provides adequate security and backup of information stored on the college’s enterprise servers.
  • Collaborates with the Business Office on information privacy, security and compliance.
  • Oversees design and content of Information Technology's websites, blogs, videos and other online resources.
  • Offers leadership and assistance in providing adequate training to users of information technology.
  • Fosters a widespread awareness of good computer ethics within the campus community.
  • Serves as contact for Facilities Services on projects.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supervises the technical services group within Information Technology.
  • Administers cable TV and other video services in collaboration with the Director of Audio and Visual Technology.
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned.

External Working Relationships: Parents, Vendors, Consultants, Contractors, Government and Regulatory Bodies

Direct Reports: Director of Enterprise Information Systems, Director of Technology and User Support, Manager of Infrastructure and Security, Information Technology Assistant, Web Programmer

Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, Ten years of successful experience in Information Technology, at least five in information technology management, preferably in a higher education setting.
