Departmental Honors
Criteria
for Departmental honors in Religion or Philosophy:
1.
Cumulative
grade point average of at least 3.0 at time of application and at time of
graduation
2.
Religion or
Philosophy major and grade point average of at least 3.50 within the program
3.
Enrollment
in Rel/Phl 499: Senior Seminar in which the candidate will:
a.
Formally apply for
departmental honors at the beginning of the course
b.
Produce
a written thesis, generally having a body of at least 7500 words exclusive of
notes, bibliography, etc.
c.
Give a public
presentation of the project open to members of the college community
d.
Obtain
a final grade of at least 3.50 (A-) for the Senior Seminar course.
4.
Final
approval by the department members at the beginning of the spring semester of
the candidate’s senior year.
Those
awarded honors status may be invited to present their work during LVC’s
weeklong “Celebration of Student Learning.”
