Cherie Van Zant ’92, P’26

Cherie Van Zant ’92 was born into a family with a love of music and a deep connection to LVC. Her parents met while students at LVC in the 1960s. Her mother, Bonita Snyder ’94 was a music education major and returned later to earn a bachelor’s degree in sacred music in 1994. During Cherie’s high school years, she was active in band and chorus. When it came time for college, Cherie’s choice was easy—Lebanon Valley College. Once she completed her undergraduate studies as a double major in sound recording technology and music theory and composition, she earned a Master of Music in Music Education at Duquesne University.  

She began her career as a production manager in the music industry. While the work was fulfilling, the long hours and frequent travel weren’t conducive to the lifestyle she wanted for her young family. Cherie decided to teach part-time at LVC’s Community Music Institute to have a consistent schedule that allowed her more time with her family. In 2014, all three of her daughters were in elementary school, so Cherie applied for a full-time position in the Music Department and has been influential in the student experience at LVC ever since.  

In her role as associate director of graduate & professional studies, Cherie is the advisor for students in graduate education programs, but that is only one piece of what she does for the campus community. She is an adjunct professor for music and education course; sometimes teaches creative arts and FYE courses; assists with the residential summer music camps; and organizes, performs, and presents at LVC’s annual Vale Conference.  

Cherie’s familial link to LVC runs deep. Her daughter, Jordan ’26, is a student in LVC’s nursing program and a member of the women’s lacrosse team. Cherie’s mother-in-law and nephew are also LVC alumni. These family ties reflect her dedication to the College and campus community. 

Outside of work, Cherie enjoys spending time with her husband, John, and their three daughters, Jordan, Madison, and Kamryn. She enjoys vacationing with her family, especially at the beach. But she treasures the time watching her daughters participate in their favorite sports, lacrosse or ice hockey. She obviously loves music, but when asked for her favorite genre, she couldn’t pick just one, answering, “It depends on my mood.”
