Tennis Standout Launches Career with The Hershey Company
Brady McLucas ’23, M’26, now achieving off-court success, played an integral role in the success of the Lebanon Valley College men’s tennis team over the past three seasons. The standout tennis player graduated from LVC in December 2023 and is now a plant accountant for The Hershey Company.
McLucas’ career with Hershey started last summer during an internship in supply chain finance before transitioning to his current role part-time while he finished his Business Administration degree. He shared that his LVC education helped prepare him for his first job.
“One of the most important things I learned at LVC is how to tell a story through a presentation,” McLucas said. “Making a presentation more than just facts and figures allows you to captivate an audience. This experience was extremely helpful during my internship and is just as useful today. My professors went beyond the textbook and showed real-life examples of what I can expect to see in my career.”
While working for Hershey, McLucas is pursuing his MBA at LVC.
“My goal is to have a career that challenges me to continue to learn, to have a true impact through my work, and to have an overall rewarding experience,” McLucas said. “In the short term, I want to learn as much as possible about finance and business. Obtaining my MBA at LVC will undoubtedly help me grow my business acumen. This will allow me to identify what I want my career path to look like and what I need to leverage to achieve my goals.”
On the court, McLucas helped the Dutchmen win their second consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Championship last spring. He wrapped up his career in the fall with a 5-0 doubles record and a 3-2 singles mark. McLucas holds the 2022 championship as one of his proudest accomplishments—the squad’s first title in 13 years.
“Going into that season, we had the goal of winning it all, and we all worked hard to make it happen,” McLucas said. “Everybody improved so much over the year, and we went undefeated in conference play and won the championship. It was so rewarding for everyone to see our efforts pay off and accomplish what we set out to do.”
McLucas was named an All-MAC Commonwealth selection twice in his career, earning Second Team recognition as a sophomore and Honorable Mention as a junior.
“Making the All-Conference Team was a goal I had before the season,” McLucas said. “I played tennis almost daily to reach the highest level that I could, and to be recognized means a lot. Something that speaks to how good our teams were is how many LVC players were on the All-Conference teams in both years. It shows how deep our team was and how competitive we were across the lineup. We all trusted each other’s abilities to go out and win.”
McLucas said that while he enjoyed competing for the men’s tennis team, he also learned key lessons as a student-athlete that he incorporates into his new job.
“Being a part of the tennis team helped prepare me for my career,” McLucas said. “Teamwork and communication are crucial to success in sports, and that certainly carries over to my position now.”
