Banned Books and Censorship: A National and International Perspective

Librarian Matthew Good resigned his public-school library position due to a district policy limiting students’ access to library books. He will discuss censorship issues and book challenges in school and public libraries, as well as advocacy efforts for intellectual freedom. Based in Lancaster, Matthew is the 2024 recipient of the John Phillip Immroth Memorial Award from the Intellectual Freedom Round Table of the American Library Association (ALA). He is the Instructional Technology Librarian at Ursinus College. In addition, he serves as the librarian for the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights (EIHR) where he evaluates and curates resources on genocide and mass atrocities.

Can Bahadır Yüce is an Assistant Professor of History at LVC. He teaches courses on world history, global studies, and the modern Middle East. He has five published books in Turkish. Dr. Yuce worked as a journalist in Turkey for several years and edited the book review of Zaman newspaper. Zaman was seized and shut down by the Turkish government in 2016.
