After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology from LVC, Sarah earned a master’s in elementary school counseling. As a graduate assistant studying and interning for a career working with elementary-aged children, Sarah worked in the advising center for undeclared students and career development center at her university. Experiencing both worlds simultaneously, Sarah realized that while she liked working with children, she loved working with college students as they experienced one of the first great transitions of their lives. As a result, Sarah has spent her entire postgraduate career working in higher education.

Sarah initially joined LVC as the associate director of the Breen Center for Career and Professional Development, later transitioning to the director of academic success. In 2020, advisor to exploratory majors was added to her title. In her role, Sarah advocates for a student’s success every step of the way from first-year student to career placement and graduation. She oversees over 300 peer tutors, is an academic coach, and is part of LVC’s CARE (Confidence, Accountability, Resilience, and Engagement) team. She says that “watching a student succeed on any level is profoundly impactful.” She also co-teaches an FYE (First-Year Experience) class each fall, “Making Major Decisions,” for exploratory majors and an immersive course for study pod leaders called “Theory and Practice of Tutoring.”

Experiencing LVC as a student, an administrator, and an instructor, Sarah does not hesitate when saying her work with students has been the best part of her connection to LVC. While every day presents a brand-new challenge, Sarah is confident that there are endless ways for students to find a path that works for them.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan Bartz ’08, their two children, and their dogs. She likes to travel, cook, craft, exercise, and spend time outdoors with her family. When spring arrives, Sarah will be in her garden tending to her expansive garden and flower beds.
