Issues Reporting Response

Lebanon Valley College strives to be an environment that respects, affirms, and defends the dignity of each member of our community. If you have experienced or witnessed an issue that you believe to be in violation of Lebanon Valley College policies or the Student Code of Conduct, please report the matter to the College per the guidelines below. Students with grievances about grades or other classroom issues should follow the links below.

Reports of issues should be made via the methods outlined on the Issues & Grievance reporting page.

Any crime, including a suspected hate crime, should be reported to Campus Safety at ext. 6111 or 717-867-6111. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a hate crime is “at the federal level, a crime motivated by bias against race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.”

If you are experiencing an emergency or there is an imminent threat to your safety or the safety of the LVC community, call 911.

See below for the composition of Report Review Teams for different types of issues. The Report Review Team will:

  • Determine whether there is a need for immediate action to protect the safety of individuals or the community (If yes, deploy the Critical Incident & Emergency Management Team and related communications).
  • Acknowledge receipt of the report to the Reporting Party.
  • Assign a support person to provide resources to the Reporting Party depending on the Reporting Party’s needs (examples: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging administrator; Human Resources administrator; a Student Affairs professional; Counseling Services).
  • Investigate the matter, considering the relevance of any available information and direct observations or reasonable inferences from the facts, excluding opinions.
  • The College response will be developed based on the specifics of the report.
  • The Report Review Team will collaborate with appropriate campus leaders and, if deemed necessary, College legal counsel to develop LVC’s response.
  • The Report Review Team will check in with the assigned support person to ensure the Reporting Party has been contacted and offered support.
  • If the issue is a non-emergency, determine whether communications about the issue are warranted. If communications are warranted, offer care to affected parties, make constituents aware of the incident, address immediate impact, request additional information if needed, outline next steps, offer opportunities for education and healing, and affirm the College’s values.
  • At the conclusion of an investigation, the investigators will prepare a confidential report summarizing the incident and determine next steps according to LVC policies and/or applicable state and federal laws.
  • The Reporting Party will be notified of the completion and disposition of the investigation of the Report. Please note that the College is unable to disclose specific information of those involved in, and outcomes of, College disciplinary processes.
  • Crimes occurring on campus are disclosed annually through the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report.
  • The college will respond to all reports in a timely manner.
  • The Report Review Team and assigned support person will document the investigation and progress, including check-ins with the Reporting Party.
  • At all times, the College will uphold the integrity of law enforcement investigations and College policies, including federal and state privacy protections.
  • Review Teams will report synopses and status updates of all issues reports to the President’s Cabinet via monthly President’s Cabinet updates. Report data will be analyzed for trends, needs for changes to policies and procedures, and educational, prevention, or social programs.
