The goal of this four-week summer study abroad program is to offer LVC students the opportunity to engage with the language, culture and lifestyle in the cradle of French-speaking Quebec City, Canada. Students will enroll in an intensive French course at their appropriate level (advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced), and participate in mandatory volunteer experiences and optional cultural activities in the afternoons to truly immerse in French language and culture. Students will develop skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in addition to the study of grammar and phonetics.
Highlights:
- French language course levels will be determined by a French language placement test.
- The program combines a three-hour daily classroom instruction with mandatory community volunteer and cultural activities on most afternoons.
- Students live with local host families who will provide breakfast and dinner.
- Scholarship funding for students completing a French language concentration is available through the Languages Department for this program.
Program Details
Program cost for 2025 is estimated at approximately $3,700 and will include:
- Tuition (6 credits) in one French course and volunteer program placement
- Housing with a local family, with breakfast and dinner provided
- Textbook and school materials
- Foreign emergency medical insurance
Lunches, airfare/travel, bus pass and personal expenses are not included.
Study abroad grant funding is available based on eligibility. In addition, this program may be eligible for limited financial aid. Please read the 2024-25 Summer Financial Aid Application instructions on the Financial Aid website for additional information and submit an application to the Financial Aid Office.
Students can select their own Summer 2025 program dates in Quebec City, Canada. Students must start the program on a Monday and participate for a four-week period.
Application Deadline: February 1
- Applications must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 (non-refundable after February 1).
- Remaining balance is due March 15
Students will earn a total of six credits and fulfill one Immersive Experience (IME) requirement through the French language course (4 credits) plus community volunteering and cultural activities (2 credits) arranged by the host institution.
Students are not accompanied by an LVC faculty director for this program.
Prerequisites:
- Students must have completed up to FRN 102 at LVC to be considered for acceptance into the program.
- Students from any major who are in good social and academic standing (2.5 GPA) may apply.
