Multi-Grammy Winner John Daversa to Join LVC for Week-Long Residency and Free Concert Series
Trumpeter, composer, and band leader John Daversa will be in residence at Lebanon Valley College May 1–5 for a series of free concerts and masterclasses. Daversa, an active educator, is chair of studio music and jazz at Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
Daversa will appear as a featured soloist with LVC’s premiere jazz ensemble, the Valley Jazz Orchestra, on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Theatre in Annville. The band will perform a collection of Daversa’s uniquely challenging original compositions, each blending jazz, rock, and funk elements.
Daversa will present a masterclass on Tuesday, May 2, at 11 a.m. in Lutz Hall at Blair Music Center. He will discuss his ideas and philosophy of performing and composing and other aspects of working in the music business and higher education. A question-and-answer session will follow the masterclass.
In his final residency performance, Daversa will be accompanied by the LVC jazz faculty on Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in the Leedy Theatre of the Allan W. Mund College Center. Dr. Jeff Lovell (piano), Dr. Justin Morell (guitar), Ryan Kuntz (bass), and Larry Marshall (drummer) will join Daversa for a concert of original compositions in a small-group format.
All events during Daversa’s residency are free and open to the public.
Daversa is a multi-Grammy winning trumpet-player, composer, arranger, producer, band leader, and educator. He is world-renowned for his dynamic and emotive style of trumpet and EVI playing, along with imaginative, genre-bending compositions and arrangements. Daversa is a Schilke Music Artist (trumpet) and a Burglund Artist (NuEVI).
