Emma Cartwright

Director of Service & Community Engagement

A Licensed Social Worker, Emma Cartwright brings an educational background in social work, education policy, and social analysis to their LVC role. They also bring a Bachelor’s in Social Work (University of North Carolina at Greensboro), a Master’s in Education Policy and Social Analysis (Columbia University), and leadership through multiple student-facing community roles in higher education.

Emma is a transformative educator, presenting on innovative programming and strategies to provide differentiated levels of service and civic engagement, which promotes reducing barriers to college attendance while simultaneously increasing student leadership, development, and overall campus involvement. She spearheaded a Civic Leader Summer Institute, firmly rooted in the Citizen Redefined Curriculum by Citizen University.

Ask Every Student, a national initiative to support college and university efforts to encourage students to register to vote, is another civic program Emma proudly supports. Applying for and receiving an Ask Every Student grant was one of the first goals they achieved after arriving at LVC. They will use the award to implement innovative student voter registration strategies in the community.

Outside of their professional life, Emma and their partner have a shared love for the outdoors. They often spend their free time ‘recharging’ with their dogs, Lewis, a Labrador mix, and Hobbs, an Australian Shepard mix. Their activities range from exploring new hiking trails to kayaking on the Susquehanna River, and they particularly enjoy taste-testing the variety of local farm stands.

They warmly welcome all students to visit them and the many pictures of Lewis and Hobbs in her office in Miller Chapel.
