Sustainability

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is a leader on Lebanon Valley College’s campus in sustainable practices. We believe in sustainability and only purchase Energy Smart servers, RoHS-compliant network equipment, EPEAT Silver or higher desktops, laptops, and printers. We install multifunction devices (printer/scanner/copier/fax) where possible and purchase re-manufactured printer toners and recycle cartridges. We donate previously used equipment, first to non-profit organizations, and then to employees before recycling all remaining servers, computers, network, and printer equipment. Equipment from LVC has been donated all over the world including recently in Haiti, Lithuania, and Zimbabwe. The OIT participates in all College paper, glass, and cardboard recycling programs and recycles packing materials. In addition, OIT recycles out-of-service or scrap copper wire. We believe firmly in virtualization to reduce power consumption and have implemented virtualization in all data centers, and throughout many lab environments on campus.
